The primary focus of his interdisciplinary activities is the merging of traditional natural therapeutic techniques with the steadily evolving findings of modern physiological science, to develop informed and effective modes of non-invasive therapy. (Thus the "Evolutionary Traditions" of the title.) The massage techniques described in this book result from the confluence of Dr. Berube's clinical experience, knowledge of traditional therapies, and studies in the physiochemistry of the lymphatic and circulatory systems; they should prove of value to practitioners and students in a wide spectrum of health disciplines.
This book is also intented for the lay person who is curious about how physiology works, and how it can be adjusted to a more healthful balance in a gentle and non-invasive way. Such a curiosity, in fact, first led Dr. Berube to research these techniques, concerned not only with their value to health professionals, but also with the benefit that ubderstanding these processes provides to the individual in promoting his or her own good health. This book itself, with its careful exposition of the relation of body manipulation to pysiological function, springs from Dr. Berube's conviction that "much of healing has to do with education and understanding; the more that one knows, the more control one has over one's health and life."
